Avue® and LifeLock® Move to Protect Federal Agencies from Identity Theft Liability

Federal Employees Invited to Opt-In at No Charge for Coverage

Washington, DC – Avue Technologies and LifeLock® announced today a joint effort to protect Federal Government agencies from liability for identity theft. Avue is the premier provider of human capital technology solutions to the Federal Government and is a certified HR Line of Business Shared Service Center. While personal information holders such as credit card companies and employers often purchase credit monitoring or identity theft protection after a personal data loss has occurred, the parties believe this is the first time a company has secured identity theft protection for its customers proactively well before any such loss might occur.

The joint program arises as the loss of “personally identifiable information” (PII) has become a major focal point of data security incidents at Federal agencies. Lost employee and citizen data has driven changes in incident reporting requirements, agency policy on data storage and transmission, encryption, and even has impacted what data will be collected and stored by Federal agencies and contractors. According to the Federal Trade Commission, identity theft is the fastest growing crime in America. A single incident or data breach can cost the Government hundreds of millions of dollars for credit reporting and fraud mitigation

Under their agreement, Avue® will purchase LifeLock® coverage for all full-time employees of Federal agencies that are subscribers to Avue’s human capital automation platform. The coverage will be added to the agency’s subscription to Avue at no extra charge to either the agency or the employee. The employee will merely need to “opt-in” through their normal Avue Navigator® desktop portal to receive LifeLock’s guaranteed protection from credit and identity theft. In the event that a registered employee’s personal identity information is compromised by the Government or any third party, the employee’s credit and identity will already be protected from identity theft.

LifeLock provides an array of services designed to prevent identity theft by blocking fraudulent credit applications, and guarantees it will reimburse a member up to one-million dollars for financial losses if a member’s identity is stolen.

Under the Avue program, each employee will be given the option to add their spouse or children to LifeLock coverage at their own expense. When the employee leaves employment with an Avue client, he or she will have the option to continue their LifeLock coverage at their own expense, but at a very favorable rate.
